Gina - My story
It's hard to believe that the first picture was me! Every time I see it I pinch myself.
The first picture was taken in 2004 when I was 28 and the second picture was taken in 2011, 2 years after I had become a fitness instructor.
Going though this journey and losing nearly 5 stone, I know from first hand experience what it's like to be unhappy with your weight and the way you look and feel.
It takes hard work, dedication and consitency but you can do it!
I set up UKGetActive back in 2009 because I wanted others to experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. When I was overweight it affected my whole well-being. I felt demotivated, sluggish, tired and depressed. Now I am energetic, happy and confident and I want to help you feel the same!
My classes are welcoming, friendly, fun, motivational and for everyone.
When Gemma joined me after the first lockdown, we made it our mission to reach out to as many people as we could from all over the world. We wanted to make our classes inclusive, we didn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't do it because of mobility issues, physical challenges and injuries. We now have worldwide clients who are feeling the benefits a healthy and positive lifestyle can bring. Anyone can do it!

Gemma - My story
Do you ever look in the mirror and think “where did this extra weight come from”?
Do you stand on the scales and wonder when that extra half stone crept on?
Trust me, I’ve been there! In my 20s my weight ballooned and at my heaviest I was 16.5stone (18st + when I was pregnant!) & I accepted that that was just how I was, until a few years ago when I looked in the mirror and decided I had had enough and things had to change.
With the support of family, my mindset altered. I realized how much I was actually eating – biscuits had to go and I needed to move more. I changed my eating habits by counting calories, reducing portion sizes, meal planning and resisting temptations. I started increasing my exercise with more walking and an exercise bike. But I had to keep challenging myself, so after completing the couch 2 5k, I started Gina’s GetHiitPilates sessions, I found it hard but loved it, I was hooked. My improvement in fitness and eating healthier lead me to run multiple half marathons, lose a total of 6 stone and be able to start my new career as a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer.
I would have never predicted that walking into Gina's class would get me to the point I am at now doing a job I absolutely adore and living a very active life. My mental health has improved massively and I have more energy now than every before. I want to help others achieve what I have achieved, see their potential and guide them in leading a healthy lifestyle without following a strict diet plan.
I love working people of all abilities and ages, so don't let anything hold you back. It doesn't matter what you have done before, what matters is what you do from now on. Find a class that grabs your attention, try something that challenges you, do an extra class instead of watching an episode on Netflix, don’t ever doubt your abilities – if you put in the work, you will get results! Do this for you and enjoy the rewards!
